Weekend Thrills – Why I’m Returning to Aburi and Koforidua

Some of the best escapes are the ones closest to home, and for me, that’s Aburi. Just about an hour outside Accra, it’s become a hub of fun, adventure, and the kind of joy that doesn’t require a passport.
I’ve been dreaming of a weekend where we head to Aburi and let loose a little—start with quad biking through the bush trail, then push our limits at the “We Ape” rope course and zip line through the trees. Adrenaline, laughter, and lots of shouting. After all the action, we’d wind down at a cozy hotel with a bonfire and barbecue under the stars—feet up, hearts full.
But the adventure doesn’t stop there.
The next morning, we’d take a slow drive to Koforidua for one reason: fufu and palm wine. The real kind. No frills, just soul-satisfying goodness in a town that always feels like a warm hug. And after that? We’d head home feeling full—body, spirit, and memory.
Sometimes, the best travel stories are made just outside your backyard.
